VVhatever to VVhyNot?
It occurred to me days past that we've transitioned as a society. This transition took place sometime in the mid-to-late 2000's, although some people experienced bits of this transition shortly after the calendar revealed that the 2000's would not indeed end the world (or at least the banking world).
Prior to the transition was a movement defined by a lack of care. The tag of this movement was elegantly expressed in the hieroglyphics of our time - the whatever emoji ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
This VVhatever movement was a time when people stopped caring, and thus formed no coherent movement, except to express that everything was copacetic no matter the result. In the heady days of the VVhatever movement, we spawned a level of interconnection oriented toward "everything goes" that has led to mass adoption of the Internet. The primary focus was on tolerance, no matter the consequence. Because - "whatever."
Indeed, society has now formulated rules for the Internet, all of which show its founding in the VVhatever movement. Take for example, the most famous of Internet rules - rule 34. Rule 34 states that "if it exists, there is porn of it." All too true. When porn in the past has been relegated to shady truck stops, and shops with blacked out windows due to fragile American sensibilities, it has been freed by the Internet to be anything, and according to rule 34, everything anyone would ever want it to be and beyond.
The VVhatever movement was succinctly captured by Mike Judge in his VVhatever movement postmortem movie - Office Space.

If nothing else, Mike Judge has served as a critical chronicler of the VVhatever movement, and more recently, the current movement.
Consider that Mr. Judge celebrated the dying days of the VVhatever movement with Office Space, and kicked off awareness of the current, subsequent movement with his movie Idiocracy. Idiocracy is prescient. Idiocracy reveals the current movement for its logical end result.
Whether due to the lack of anonymity, the pure, singular power to disrupt, or both lavished upon society by the Internet of the VVhatever movement, we have transitioned to an even more implausible movement that simply asks "Why not?" There's no way to answer the question posited by "Why not?" Because - Whatever.
Reason and logic are superseded by acceptance and tolerance. There can be no bad decision so long as there is agreement, which is just a dressed up way of accepting and tolerating decisions. The easiest way to agreement is to stop caring. Whatever. And the easiest way to win agreement is "Why not?"
Nothing terminates a discussion more quickly than by responding with "Why not?" It is a next level "Whatever" that not only challenges the recipient's level of caring (and thus lack of acceptance and tolerance) but alpha-signals your own stated lack of caring. It's how you arrive at spraying salt - electrolytes - on your plants. It is Idiocracy.
In this context, "Why not?" becomes life's irrefutable question. And I - with the help of others - will attempt to pull the veil back on the increasingly brazen VVhyNot movement lurking to encase society in a terminal state of uncaring. And, once you begin to see it, you'll find that it's everywhere, manipulating your ability to care by constantly redirecting your care back to the medium of whatever (i.e., the Internet).
Here, using the medium of whatever, we'll document the VVhyNot movement. Can attempting to care using the medium of whatever to refute the VVhyNot movement destroy society? Possibly. But why chance the ruination of society on a simple impulse? The only socially accepted answer is - you guessed it: "Why not?"
